The Alliance for IP Media Solutions (AIMS) has certified 14 new products from eight manufacturers for the IPMX standard following testing at the EBU headquarters. This certification program provides an independent verification process for interoperability in Pro AV and live event environments, moving beyond informal plugfests.
This expansion of the IPMX product certification program marks a transition from informal testing to a rigorous, independent verification framework. By moving beyond basic plugfests, AIMS provides the technical certainty required for engineers to deploy SMPTE ST 2110-based workflows in fragmented Pro AV and corporate environments. This standardization effort directly addresses the complexity of multi-vendor interoperability, which has historically slowed the adoption of IP-based transport in live events. As the industry shifts toward software-defined infrastructure, these verified hardware and software profiles reduce the integration risks for large-scale deployments. Watch for the next round of testing results to see if major networking switch vendors seek formal certification to further unify the transport layer.
The IPMX certification program represents a maturation of the SMPTE ST 2110 ecosystem beyond broadcast into Pro AV and live events. AIMS has structured its testing around the EBU's facilities in Geneva, building on the alliance's long-standing collaboration with European broadcasters. Matrox Video announced in early 2026 that its Monarch EDGE encoder platform had achieved IPMX certification, positioning the product for multi-vendor interoperability in live event workflows. Meanwhile, EvertzAV expanded its IPMX-compatible product line at ISE 2026 in Barcelona, demonstrating 2110-based transport alongside NMOS control for corporate and venue installations. The inclusion of eight manufacturers in this latest round signals that the certification is gaining traction across both broadcast-heritage and Pro AV-native vendors.
On the business and standards side, AIMS has aligned IPMX certification with broader industry mandates for open interoperability. The European Broadcasting Union published guidance in mid-2026 recommending IPMX-compliant devices for its member organizations' live production upgrades, effectively creating a procurement signal across dozens of public broadcasters. Sam Recine, who chairs the AIMS IPMX working group, has emphasized that the certification process mirrors the rigor applied to broadcast-grade 2110 deployments but adapts test profiles for the shorter signal chains common in Pro AV. Bridge Technologies confirmed in 2026 that its IP monitoring tools had been validated for IPMX-compliant streams, giving operators a path to verify compliance in production environments rather than relying solely on lab testing.
Technical benchmarks from recent plugfests and certification events provide concrete performance data for the IPMX stack. intoPIX demonstrated JPEG XS compression over IPMX transport at NAB Show 2026, achieving sub-frame latency suitable for live switching and contribution links. Cobalt Digital and ITDev, both among the newly certified manufacturers, have focused on edge-device gateway functions that bridge SDI and IP domains, a critical requirement for hybrid facilities still transitioning from baseband. Macnica showcased its IPMX reference design at ISE 2026, targeting OEMs building 2110-compliant hardware without developing full protocol stacks in-house. PlexusAV, another certified vendor, has positioned its IPMX endpoints for distributed corporate AV, extending the standard's reach beyond traditional broadcast and live event use cases.
