The Alliance for IP Media Solutions (AIMS) and partner organizations have launched an official IPMX certification program, with 48 products from 11 manufacturers verified at ISE 2026. The standard adapts SMPTE ST 2110 for Pro AV environments, utilizing JPEG XS compression and flexible timing to enable interoperable media transport over standard Ethernet infrastructure.
The launch of a formal certification program marks the transition of IPMX from a theoretical framework to a deployable commercial standard. By decoupling media streams and supporting asynchronous timing, the standard allows broadcasters and Pro AV integrators to utilize standard IT switches rather than expensive, PTP-mandated infrastructure. This shift challenges the dominance of proprietary AV-over-IP platforms by enabling a multi-vendor ecosystem where hardware is selected based on performance rather than ecosystem compatibility.
