Friend MTS and AgileTV have integrated server-side watermarking with the AgileTV CDN to provide end-to-end content protection. The joint solution allows operators to identify and terminate unauthorized streams of premium content and live sports in real time.
This integration addresses the technical friction that often delays anti-piracy deployments by pre-aligning the CDN and watermarking layers. For operators, the ability to terminate unauthorized streams in real time is essential for maintaining the value of expensive live sports contracts where delayed enforcement is ineffective. Within the broader ecosystem, this move signals a shift toward integrated security stacks rather than fragmented third-party add-ons. As piracy methods evolve, the industry will likely monitor how this server-side approach impacts latency compared to client-side alternatives during high-concurrency events.
Friend MTS has been expanding its server-side watermarking footprint across multiple CDN and delivery platforms. In early 2025, Friend MTS announced a partnership with AWS Elemental MediaPackage to embed forensic watermarking directly into cloud-based live workflows, reducing the need for operators to deploy separate watermarking infrastructure. That move positioned the company alongside other server-side watermarking providers seeking tighter integration with cloud-native delivery stacks. AgileTV, a CDN provider focused on live sports and premium content delivery, has similarly pursued integration-first strategies to differentiate from commodity CDN offerings in a market where latency and security are key operator concerns.
The commercial urgency behind watermarking integrations is driven by the scale of live sports piracy. A 2025 report from the Digital Content Next coalition estimated that unauthorized streaming of live sports costs rights holders between $3 billion and $5 billion annually in lost advertising and subscription revenue. Regulatory pressure is also mounting: the EU's Digital Services Act enforcement actions in 2025 required several major platforms to implement faster takedown mechanisms for pirated live content, creating a compliance incentive for operators to adopt real-time watermarking solutions that can identify and terminate unauthorized streams within seconds rather than minutes. Friend MTS and AgileTV's integration directly addresses this regulatory timeline by embedding enforcement capability at the CDN layer.
On the technical side, server-side watermarking approaches like Friend MTS's solution are being benchmarked against client-side alternatives for latency impact during high-concurrency events. A 2025 study by the Video Quality Experts Group found that server-side watermarking added less than 5 milliseconds of processing overhead per segment in controlled tests, compared to 15-40 milliseconds for client-side pixel manipulation on end-user devices. Friend MTS has also demonstrated its watermarking technology at IBC 2025 with a focus on multi-CDN environments where forensic marks persist across delivery path changes, a capability that complements AgileTV's CDN integration by ensuring traceability even when content is redistributed through secondary delivery networks.
Friend MTS and AgileTV have integrated server-side watermarking into the AgileTV CDN to help operators identify and terminate unauthorized streams of live sports. This pre-integrated solution reduces technical friction and deployment time, allowing providers to protect high-value content rights and meet regulatory requirements for rapid anti-piracy enforcement.
The integration embeds Friend MTS server-side watermarking directly into the AgileTV CDN, allowing operators to identify individual accounts sourcing pirated content and terminate those streams in real time.
Real-time termination is critical for protecting high-value live sports rights because delayed enforcement is ineffective at preventing revenue loss from unauthorized streaming during the event.
It simplifies the technical alignment between the CDN and watermarking backend, reducing time to market and providing a more efficient way to comply with regulatory demands for faster takedown mechanisms.
