Edith Cowan University deploys Riedel live production infrastructure for IP training

The implementation of Riedel live production infrastructure at Edith Cowan University highlights the accelerating shift toward ST 2110 standards in professional media environments. By integrating Artist-1024 and MediorNet HorizoN, the university creates a hybrid environment that mirrors the current industry transition from SDI to IP-based routing. This move ensures that the next generation of technical directors and engineers are proficient in managing complex, distributed resources across multiple production spaces. As streaming and broadcast workflows become increasingly software-defined, the ability to manage high-density IP nodes will become a baseline requirement for production personnel. Watch for Riedel to showcase further refinements to these IP-native workflows at IBC2026 in Amsterdam.

Riedel Communications has been steadily expanding its footprint in academic and training environments alongside its traditional broadcast and live-event customer base. In early 2025, Riedel announced that the University of Applied Sciences in Salzburg had deployed a MediorNet-based IP media network to support multi-room production workflows for its media technology program, mirroring the educational use case at Edith Cowan University. The company has also deepened its presence in professional broadcast facilities: Riedel confirmed in May 2025 that Germany's RTL Deutschland had selected MediorNet HorizoN as the backbone for its new IP-based master control room in Cologne, consolidating SDI and ST 2110 routing into a single COTS-based platform. These deployments demonstrate that Riedel's hybrid SDI-to-IP approach is being adopted across the full spectrum from training labs to tier-one broadcasters. On the business and standards side, Riedel has positioned its Artist-1024 intercom platform as a key component for SMPTE ST 2110-compliant facilities. The company announced in April 2025 that Artist-1024 received AES67 and ST 2110-30 interoperability certification, reinforcing its compatibility with multi-vendor IP environments. Riedel also expanded its Bolero wireless intercom ecosystem during the same period, introducing a new frequency-agile variant at NAB Show 2025 that supports up to 200 beltpacks per network in dense RF environments such as stadiums and university campuses with multiple simultaneous productions. The Bolero system's scalability makes it particularly relevant for educational institutions like Edith Cowan University that need to support large cohorts of students working across several stages and control rooms simultaneously. From a technical standpoint, Riedel's MediorNet platform has been benchmarked in independent evaluations for its low-latency signal transport. A 2025 test conducted by the European Broadcasting Union measured MediorNet HorizoN end-to-end video latency at under one frame for uncompressed 1080p50 signals over a 100 GbE backbone, a figure that places it among the lowest-latency IP routing solutions available for live production. The RiCapture ingest server, which Edith Cowan University uses to bridge legacy SDI sources into the IP domain, was highlighted in a 2025 Riedel technical white paper as supporting up to 16 simultaneous 4K UHD capture channels on a single 2U chassis, giving educational facilities a compact path to future-proof their ingest workflows without requiring separate hardware.
