Crispin Corporation has announced a suite of automation tools for newsrooms, including the AI-powered FASTWheel for automated rundown creation and Secondary Records for live event capture. The update also highlights OTTlink, which provides SCTE-35 metadata for dynamic ad insertion in OTT and FAST environments.
The introduction of these tools addresses the growing need for local broadcasters to scale digital presence without expanding headcount. By automating the transition from web content to linear-style rundowns, Crispin reduces the technical barrier for stations to launch niche FAST channels. This shift reflects a broader industry move toward software-defined master control where AI handles repetitive scheduling tasks. As broadcasters seek to maximize the lifecycle of expensive live news assets, the ability to instantly repurpose segments for OTT becomes a critical revenue driver. Watch for how these automated workflows impact the speed at which local newsrooms can deploy breaking news specials to digital-only audiences.
Crispin Corporation enters a crowded field of vendors building AI-assisted playout and rundown automation for broadcasters. In June 2026, Ericsson launched its AI in RAN commercial software subscription claiming up to 20% higher downlink throughput across more than 15 live deployments, signaling that even infrastructure vendors are packaging AI automation as subscription products for operators managing content delivery at scale. The parallel in the broadcast stack is clear: vendors from Crispin to larger players are converging on AI-driven automation as a subscription or platform play rather than one-time hardware sales. The FAST channel ecosystem that Crispin's FASTWheel targets has attracted significant investment and consolidation over the past year. Nokia announced work with AWS and Databricks to build the data, cloud, and control layers for autonomous networks at DTW Ignite, demonstrating how the broader telecom and media infrastructure layer is being reorganized around unified data platforms and agentic AI orchestration. For broadcasters deploying FAST channels, this means the underlying delivery infrastructure is itself becoming more automated and intent-driven, reducing the operational burden that Crispin's OTTlink and SCTE-35 metadata tools are designed to address at the content layer. On the technical side, the push toward software-defined broadcast operations mirrors trends in network automation. Ericsson described the network as becoming an intelligent fabric where AI inference is hosted inside the network itself rather than in distant data centers, a philosophy that resonates with Crispin's approach of embedding AI directly into the newsroom workflow rather than requiring separate cloud processing. Ericsson and Nokia are diverging sharply on AI-RAN strategy, with Nokia building its entire RAN strategy on Nvidia GPUs and CUDA, illustrating that even at the infrastructure level, vendors are making distinct architectural bets on how AI should integrate with existing systems. For newsroom operators evaluating automated AI video production tools, the key question is whether the AI automation layer can interoperate with existing newsroom workflows and playout servers without requiring a full stack replacement.
Crispin has launched FASTWheel, an AI-driven system that converts website RSS feeds into structured playout rundowns for FAST and OTT channels. By automating content repurposing and live event capture, these tools allow local broadcasters to scale their digital presence and maximize news asset lifecycles without increasing their production staff headcount.

Secondary Records automates live event capture using playlist triggers, which eliminates the need for manual operator intervention during the process.
OTTlink provides SCTE-35 metadata integration, which enables dynamic ad insertion and helps broadcasters maintain regional blackout compliance.
Broadcasters are using these tools to scale their digital presence and repurpose existing news content for digital platforms without the need to expand their production staff.
