Bolin Technology and ITDev have joined the Alliance for IP Media Solutions (AIMS) to support the development and adoption of IPMX and SMPTE ST 2110 standards. The membership aims to integrate Bolin's PTZ camera expertise and ITDev's FPGA design capabilities into the alliance's ongoing work on interoperable IP workflows.
The addition of Bolin Technology and ITDev to AIMS signals a shift from theoretical standard-setting to practical hardware implementation for IPMX and ST 2110. By integrating PTZ camera manufacturing and FPGA design services, the alliance is addressing the technical hurdles that often slow the transition from proprietary to open IP workflows. This move strengthens the ecosystem by providing manufacturers with the specialized engineering resources needed to build interoperable devices for live production. As the Pro AV and broadcast sectors converge, the industry should watch for a new wave of IPMX-certified hardware releases that utilize ITDev’s FPGA IP to simplify deployment.
The industry continues to face challenges as SMPTE ST 2110 network infrastructure remains a primary bottleneck for many facilities transitioning to IP-based production environments. As these facilities modernize, many broadcasters adopt ST-2110 and REMI to support complex multi-platform sports production workflows. Further technical progress is being made as IPMX ST 2110 adaptation continues to bridge broadcast standards with 1 GbE networks. Recent developments also include Cobalt Digital IPMX support which further expands the ecosystem, while new AJA FS8 processor units continue to bridge legacy SDI and modern IP standards. Meanwhile, transceiver testing for ST 2110 is helping to refine the physical layer requirements for high-bandwidth IP production.
