Appear and Thoroughbred Racing Productions have successfully completed a proof of concept for a multi-camera REMI production workflow using bonded 5G and LEO satellite connectivity. The trial utilized Appear's X5 and X20 platforms with hardware-accelerated SRT to transport four HD camera feeds and two return feeds from remote Australian racecourses.
This successful validation proves that high-quality remote production no longer requires expensive, fixed-line infrastructure at every venue. By bonding 5G and LEO satellite connectivity, broadcasters can now deploy multi-camera setups in geographically isolated areas that were previously cost-prohibitive or technically unreachable. This shift supports the broader industry trend toward centralized production hubs, allowing organizations like Racing Victoria to scale their output while reducing on-site operational footprints. As LEO satellite constellations expand, the industry should watch for a decrease in traditional satellite truck deployments in favor of these more agile, software-defined transport platforms.
Appear's X Platform has been gaining significant traction among broadcasters and transmission service providers seeking to modernize their live production infrastructure. At NAB Show 2025, Appear launched the X5 as a compact, cost-efficient extension of its X Platform family designed for smaller-scale live productions, supporting AVC, HEVC, 12G, and UHD workflows with hardware-accelerated SRT and SMPTE 2022-7 resilience. The X5 targets remote production setups and flight-case deployments, positioning it as a direct enabler of the type of bonded-connectivity REMI workflows demonstrated with Thoroughbred Racing Productions. In June 2025, PSSI Global Services purchased multiple X20 chassis, HDR HEVC encoder and decoder cards, and hardware-accelerated SRT cards from Appear to support upcoming major live events including the FIFA Club World Cup and FIFA World Cup, and to engineer new multi-path field transmission kits for clients such as UFC, WWE, and FOX Sports.
On the business and partnership side, Appear has been expanding its footprint in international sports contribution. In July 2025, beIN ASIA PACIFIC selected Appear's X Platform to modernize its broadcast infrastructure across the Asia Pacific region, deploying X20 platforms for dedicated broadcast partner feeds and X10 chassis for a Doha-to-Singapore SRT contribution link that replaced traditional leased fiber circuits. This transition to SRT over public internet reflects the same cost-efficiency logic behind the TRP trial: replacing expensive fixed infrastructure with software-defined transport over available networks. The competitive landscape for bonded cellular and remote production hardware is also intensifying. In March 2025, Haivision unveiled the Falkon X2, a dual-modem, quad-antenna 5G mobile video transmitter supporting 4K UHD with 2x2 MIMO, targeting live sports and breaking news from remote locations.
Industry-wide data confirms the transport trends underpinning the Appear and TRP trial. Haivision's sixth annual Broadcast Transformation Report, published in February 2025 based on responses from nearly 900 broadcast professionals, found that SRT usage grew from 68% in 2024 to 77% in 2025, making it the most widely used transport protocol among respondents. The same report found that 76% of broadcasters using cellular networks now rely on 5G, with 21% planning adoption within a year, citing as a key driver for bandwidth and latency improvements. These figures validate the technical premise behind bonding 5G with LEO satellite for multi-camera REMI production: the industry is already shifting toward at scale.
