Appear and Thoroughbred Racing Productions have successfully completed a proof of concept for multi-camera remote live production using bonded 5G and LEO satellite connectivity. The trial utilized Appear's X5 and X20 hardware platforms to transport HEVC-encoded feeds via SRT, demonstrating a viable workflow for remote racecourse broadcasting without traditional infrastructure.
This trial confirms that bonded 5G and LEO satellite constellations have reached the reliability threshold required for professional multi-camera live sports. By removing the dependency on expensive, fixed-line fiber at remote venues, broadcasters can significantly lower the overhead of regional event coverage. This shift supports the broader industry trend toward centralized production hubs, where specialized staff remain at a home base while only essential hardware travels to the site. As LEO providers like Starlink expand capacity, expect more tier-two sports properties to adopt similar wireless-first contribution models. Watch for TRP to transition this proof of concept into a permanent operational standard for its regional racing calendar.
Appear has been rapidly expanding its ecosystem of broadcast and distribution partners, positioning the X Platform as a central node in IP-first live production workflows. In March 2026, LTN and Appear announced a collaboration to combine Appear's ultra-low latency encoding platform with LTN's global IP network for scalable, IP-native live video contribution and distribution targeting premium live events. The partnership supports onsite production, REMI workflows, centralized production models, and hybrid OTT distribution, with Appear's X Platform providing high-density encoding and decoding across JPEG XS, JPEG 2000, AVC, HEVC, and ST 2110 workflows. LTN executive chairman Malik Khan stated that the satellite-to-IP transition is no longer theoretical and that broadcasters are operating IP at scale today, reinforcing the same infrastructure shift that the TRP trial validates at the remote venue level.
On the business and distribution side, Appear has secured new market access that broadens the commercial case for its hardware. In February 2026, Appear's X Platform received official YouTube verification for SRT live streaming, covering the X5, X10, and X20 platforms, enabling broadcasters and rights holders to deliver low-latency live content directly to YouTube using hardware-based AVC and HEVC encoding. CEO Thomas Bostrøm Jørgensen described the certification as a strategic milestone supporting expansion into Tier 2 markets, particularly for rights holders without legacy broadcast infrastructure. Separately, Canadian broadcaster Corus Entertainment partnered with Appear to replace legacy leased circuits with an IP-based contribution architecture using SRT across its affiliates, news bureaus, and operational hubs nationwide. Corus deployed Appear's X Platform to consolidate key functions into a streamlined workflow, with an orchestration layer built around Skyline Dataminer and custom UI tools delivered by Toronto-based partner Rocket.
The technical foundation underpinning the TRP trial, SRT over bonded 5G and LEO satellite, aligns with Appear's broader platform strategy. The X Platform's support for HEVC encoding with SRT transport is the same configuration Corus uses for its always-on news contribution and the same protocol stack now verified for YouTube delivery. , a use case directly parallel to TRP's goal of producing regional racing coverage without traditional fiber infrastructure. The convergence of these partnerships and certifications suggests that Appear's X Platform is becoming a common encoding layer across contribution, distribution, and direct-to-platform delivery, with the TRP trial representing the wireless-first edge of that architecture.
