Matrox has announced the Maevex MGX Series, a line of IPMX-ready encoders and decoders that support 4K60 H.264/H.265 streaming. The new units feature Matrox IQ Mode to provide single-frame glass-to-glass latency while maintaining high compression efficiency for professional AV and broadcast environments.
Matrox addresses the historical trade-off between image quality, latency, and network load, which is critical as streaming technology moves into corporate and medical control rooms. By supporting the open IPMX standard alongside proprietary low-latency modes, Matrox provides a bridge for organizations transitioning from siloed AV setups to unified IT infrastructures. This interoperability ensures that 4K content can move across diverse networks without requiring expensive infrastructure upgrades. Industry observers should watch for adoption rates within the medical and mission-critical sectors, where the combination of 4:4:4 color accuracy and sub-frame latency is a prerequisite for remote operation.
The launch of the Maevex MGX Series follows a pivotal year for open standards in the professional AV market. According to reporting from Systems Integration Asia in February 2026, the Alliance for IP Media Solutions (AIMS) officially transitioned the Internet Protocol Media Experience (IPMX) from a developing specification to a fully certifiable and deployable industry standard at Integrated Systems Europe (ISE) 2026. This transition included the first wave of formal product certifications conducted at the European Broadcasting Union headquarters in Geneva, where 48 products from 10 manufacturers—including Matrox and Panasonic—passed rigorous interoperability testing.
Industry analysts have noted that IPMX is increasingly viewed as the bridge between the Pro AV world and broadcast-grade SMPTE ST 2110 workflows. Per a June 2026 report from APB News, the shift toward open standards like IPMX is estimated to reduce total cost of ownership by approximately 30% compared to proprietary AV-over-IP systems. This is primarily due to the ability to use standard Ethernet switches and unified IT management tools rather than specialized vendor-locked hardware. By mid-2026, IPMX was projected to power nearly 40% of new AV-over-IP projects, reflecting a growing demand for multi-vendor ecosystems that avoid the technical silos of previous hardware generations.
