swXtch.io has launched groundSwXtch, a software-defined multicast overlay application that enables the transport of uncompressed Audio over IP formats like AES67 and ST 2110-30 over standard IP networks. The solution eliminates the need for dedicated codec hardware and multicast router reconfiguration, supporting hybrid cloud and on-premises workflows.
The launch of groundSwXtch removes a significant hardware bottleneck for live production by enabling bit-identical, uncompressed audio transport over commodity IP infrastructure. By bypassing the traditional encode/decode cycle, broadcasters can reduce latency and capital expenditure while maintaining the signal integrity required for high-end mixing and intercom systems. This technical bridge is critical as the industry migrates toward software-defined networking (SDN) and virtualized production hubs. For the broader ecosystem, this signals a shift where standard internet and 5G connections can reliably handle high-fidelity broadcast essence previously reserved for private dark fiber. Watch for initial adoption rates in remote sports production and distributed radio bureaus to gauge the viability of software-only multicast overlays.
The introduction of groundSwXtch follows a period of expansion for the Audio over IP (AoIP) market, which was valued at $2.1 billion in 2025 and is projected to reach $4.9 billion by 2033, according to MetaStat Insight in April 2026. This growth is largely driven by the broadcast industry's transition from legacy SDI infrastructure to IP-based production, with the AES67 standard alone accounting for approximately 20% of the market share in 2026. Industry analysts at Growth Market Reports noted in August 2025 that the demand for scalable, remote production tools is fueling a 15.1% CAGR in the sector.
Strategically, swXtch.io has been positioning itself as a core infrastructure layer for hybrid workflows. In August 2025, the company announced a partnership with Bridge Technologies to integrate VB220 IP probes into its cloudSwXtch platform, allowing broadcasters to monitor up to 260 multicast flows with deep packet-level observability. This move, combined with the launch of groundSwXtch, addresses the "skills gap" often cited by engineering teams moving from hardware-centric to software-defined environments, per Tyrell CCT reporting from September 2025.
Further market data from Dell'Oro Group in May 2026 suggests the broader optical and IP transport market is seeing a 16% surge in growth as AI data centers and media workloads drive demand for high-performance interconnects. By offering a software-only solution that avoids the supply chain lead times currently impacting optical hardware suppliers, swXtch.io is targeting a specific friction point in the deployment of globally distributed, low-latency production fabrics.
