Riedel MediorNet HorizoN app integrates ST 2110 multiviewing into IP workflows

The launch of the Riedel MediorNet HorizoN app signals a shift toward collapsing the traditional broadcast stack into unified, software-defined IP environments. By integrating multiviewing directly into the transport layer, Riedel reduces the hardware footprint and complexity typically associated with high-bandwidth ST 2110 deployments. This move aligns with a broader industry trend where infrastructure providers are prioritizing interoperability and vendor-agnostic orchestration to manage fragmented production ecosystems. As broadcasters move away from legacy SDI, the ability to scale monitoring via software rather than dedicated hardware becomes a critical cost-saving measure. Watch for adoption rates of the hi human interface among third-party hardware users to gauge Riedel's success in becoming the dominant orchestration layer.

Riedel Communications has been steadily expanding its MediorNet platform as a unified IP infrastructure layer for live production. At IBC 2025, Riedel showcased MediorNet HorizoN as a software-defined real-time processing environment supporting SMPTE ST 2110 workflows, positioning it as a replacement for traditional baseband routing and processing hardware. The platform's modular architecture allows broadcasters to add capabilities such as multiviewing, signal processing, and intercom through software applications rather than dedicated appliances. This approach mirrors a broader industry shift where vendors like Lawo, Grass Valley, and Evertz are converging on COTS-based IP fabrics that reduce proprietary hardware dependencies in production facilities. The business case for software-defined multiviewing is gaining traction among broadcasters facing budget pressure and facility consolidation. Lawo introduced its VSM (Virtual Studio Manager) platform at NAB 2025, integrating monitoring and control functions into a single IP-native environment, directly competing with Riedel's HorizoN ecosystem for orchestration-layer dominance. Meanwhile, Grass Valley announced in early 2025 that its AMPP (Agile Media Processing Platform) had surpassed 100 cloud-based production deployments, demonstrating that the market for software-defined production infrastructure is maturing rapidly. Riedel's decision to embed multiviewing as an app within MediorNet HorizoN rather than offering it as standalone hardware reflects this competitive pressure to deliver integrated, scalable solutions that reduce total cost of ownership for broadcast operations teams. On the technical side, ST 2110 multiviewing presents specific challenges around bandwidth management and latency that Riedel's approach addresses through tight integration with its transport layer. The SMPTE ST 2110 suite of standards has seen accelerated adoption since 2024, with the European Broadcasting Union reporting that over 60% of its member organizations had initiated or completed ST 2110 migration projects by early 2025. Riedel's MediorNet HorizoN platform supports both hybrid SDI-IP and native ST 2110 configurations, which aligns with the phased migration strategies most broadcasters are pursuing. The company's SimplyLive Production Suite Flex, which handles replay and slow-motion in IP environments, complements the HorizoN multiviewing app by providing production teams with a cohesive software stack that spans monitoring, replay, and signal routing without requiring separate hardware islands for each function.
