Golden Sea acquires majority stake in Follow-Me to expand tracking tech

This acquisition signals a consolidation of specialized tracking software with global hardware manufacturing. By absorbing Follow-Me, Golden Sea secures a critical component of the modern live production stack—intelligent performer tracking—which is increasingly vital for high-end broadcast and themed installations. For the broader streaming and live event ecosystem, this move suggests a shift toward vertically integrated production solutions where lighting and tracking are sold as a unified package. The industry should monitor whether Follow-Me maintains its fixture-agnostic status or if Golden Sea begins prioritizing hardware optimizations for its own lighting brands.

Follow-Me has built its reputation on fixture-agnostic performer tracking systems used across broadcast, touring, and themed entertainment. The company's Track-iT platform integrates with lighting consoles from multiple manufacturers, allowing operators to automate follow-spot behavior without locking into a single hardware vendor. This acquisition by Golden Sea places Follow-Me's software layer inside a Chinese hardware conglomerate that already manufactures moving-head fixtures, LED panels, and control systems for the global live events market. The deal mirrors a broader trend in production technology where software intelligence is being absorbed by hardware manufacturers seeking to offer integrated solutions. Nokia and Google Cloud announced at DTW Ignite 2026 a partnership to deploy six specialized AI agents for autonomous network operations, demonstrating how agentic automation is spreading across infrastructure verticals, though the live production sector remains earlier in its AI adoption curve.

The business logic behind the Golden Sea Follow-Me acquisition reflects consolidation patterns visible across adjacent technology sectors. In telecom, Nokia combined with AWS and Databricks to build a unified data and control layer for autonomous networks, positioning its Autonomous Network Fabric as an operating system that sits between raw infrastructure and operator workflows. Similarly, Golden Sea appears to be assembling a full-stack production platform where tracking data feeds directly into its own lighting and control hardware. Follow-Me co-founder Erik Berends and managing director Marc van der Wel have indicated the company will continue operating from the Netherlands, suggesting Golden Sea values the brand's independence and existing customer relationships in European broadcast and touring markets.

On the technical side, Follow-Me's DELT∆ system represents a manual tracking approach that complements its automated Track-iT product, giving productions flexibility in how they handle performer positioning. The broader live production tracking market includes competitors such as BlackTrax (owned by Cast Software) and stYpe's tracking solutions, which serve similar broadcast and entertainment use cases. Ericsson and Nokia are diverging significantly on their AI-RAN strategies, with Nokia running all Layer 1 functions on Nvidia GPUs while Ericsson limits GPU use to forward error correction, illustrating how hardware-software integration choices create lasting architectural lock-in. The same dynamic could emerge in live production tracking if Golden Sea begins optimizing Follow-Me's algorithms specifically for its own fixture ecosystem, potentially narrowing the fixture-agnostic positioning that has been central to Follow-Me's market appeal.
