Diverse Made Media has launched the CAERUS Rover, a professional wheelchair-mounted camera system that integrates LiveU LU300S cellular bonded technology for mobile live production. The system is designed to provide stabilized, broadcast-quality acquisition for news and remote production environments.
The CAERUS Rover effectively removes the physical bottleneck of 'four-armed' operation, allowing wheelchair-using cinematographers to compete on technical merit rather than accessibility accommodations. By integrating industry-standard LiveU bonding, the platform converts a mobility device into a high-performance tracking rig capable of low-angle shots and perspectives traditional standing rigs cannot achieve. For the broader ecosystem, this shifts inclusive production from a compliance exercise to a source of unique creative assets. Watch for the results of the imminent UK broadcast pilot to see if CAERUS gains permanent footing in major outside broadcast fleets.
The launch of CAERUS comes amid a slow recovery for disability representation in the production sector. According to the Creative Diversity Network's (CDN) 2026 Diamond report, off-screen representation for disabled workers in UK broadcasting grew from 8.9% to 10.9% in 2025. However, the report noted that representation in current affairs actually declined from 9.3% to 7.8% during the same period, highlighting the specific equipment-related barriers that mobile journalism platforms like the CAERUS Rover aim to address. Nationally, disabled people still account for 16.9% of the workforce, leaving a significant gap in proportional representation within the media industry.
Technologically, the integration of LiveU units into specialized rigs aligns with a wider industry shift toward AI-driven mobile connectivity. At IBC 2026, LiveU introduced its 'Q Era' ecosystem, featuring the LU900Q unit which uses AI-driven intelligence to optimize cellular bonding in real-time. This follows a record-breaking deployment during the 2026 World Football Championship, where LiveU served as the IP backbone for a footprint spanning 16 host cities across North America. As remote production (REMI) workflows become more complex, the ability to embed these connectivity standards into specialized hardware like CAERUS ensures that inclusive crews are fully compatible with global broadcast infrastructures.
Further industry reporting from UCLA's 2025 Hollywood Diversity Report indicates that while actors with disabilities saw their share of lead roles in streaming films grow from 9% to 14% in 2024, they remain underrepresented compared to the general population. Experts at the Annenberg Inclusion Initiative noted in October 2025 that most progress in inclusion has been limited to lead characters rather than structural changes in crew composition. Tools that prioritize 'capability over disability'—a core tenet of Chris Lynch’s Diverse Made Media—are increasingly viewed by analysts as the primary mechanism for embedding long-term structural change in B2B production environments.
