AMD targets professional visualization sector with FidelityFX Super Resolution upscaling

AMD targets professional visualization sector with FidelityFX Super Resolution upscaling
The FPS Review

AMD has detailed its FidelityFX Super Resolution technology for professional use, allowing performance gains up to 3.5x at 1440p in applications like presentations and real-time rendering. This open-source upscaling solution offers various quality presets and is being integrated into design software such as ACCA Edificius BIM.

Additional Context

The expansion of AMD’s FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR) into the professional visualization market comes as the company advances its consumer upscaling roadmap. In June 2024, AMD released FSR 3.1, which decoupled frame generation from upscaling, allowing it to function alongside competing solutions like NVIDIA DLSS. By May 2026, external reports indicate that FSR reached version 4.1, transitioning toward machine-learning-based algorithms for improved temporal stability. While FSR for PRO currently leverages the open-source, non-proprietary approach of earlier versions, it benefits from these continuous refinements in image reconstruction and flicker reduction. Competitive pressure remains high as NVIDIA continues to push its proprietary DLSS suite. Per TechRadar in April 2025, while FSR holds a compatibility advantage across hardware brands, DLSS maintains an edge in raw image quality due to its hardware-accelerated AI reconstruction. This has forced AMD to balance its "open-handed" philosophy with the performance demands of specialized professional software. The integration into ACCA Software’s Edificius BIM reflects a broader trend of design suites incorporating real-time walkthroughs (RTBIM) and VR modules, which require the high frame rates that spatial upscalers provide. Market analysis suggests this professional pivot is timed to target the growing demand for real-time architectural rendering and digital twins. According to AEC Magazine, ACCA Software has a history of integrating AMD technology, having previously utilized the Radeon ProRender engine. By formalizing FSR for PRO, AMD is institutionalizing these integrations, offering a standardized path for workstation users to leverage high-performance upscaling in professional environments that were previously limited by native rendering speeds.
