ZEISS Launches Panoptes 65 Lenses Alongside CinCraft Scenario System

ZEISS unveiled its Panoptes 65 prime lens series for 65mm cinematography and the CinCraft Scenario real-time camera tracking system at Cine Gear Expo 2026. These new products are designed to provide a holistic solution for high-end virtual production and VFX-heavy workflows, integrating optical performance with digital metadata capabilities. The CinCraft Scenario system features flexible tracking markers and pre-calculates lens characteristics to streamline on-set operations.

Key Takeaways

The Panoptes 65 series features ten prime lenses from 25mm to 180mm, all with a T2.2 aperture, for 65mm large-format cameras.
These lenses cover a 59.9mm image circle, compatible with cameras including ARRI Alexa 265, Blackmagic URSA Cine 17K 65, and Fujifilm GFX ETERNA 55.
Panoptes 65 lenses support ZEISS eXtended Data (XD) for VFX, virtual production, and post-production metadata.
The CinCraft Scenario system offers real-time camera tracking that functions indoors and outdoors across various production environments, including LED volumes.
CinCraft Scenario uses flexible tracking markers and pre-calculates lens characteristics, eliminating manual lens calibration.
The system's modular hardware includes the CamBar, CinCraft Origin processing unit, and CinCraft Link relay, with software providing flexible subscription options from $300-$1000 daily/weekly/monthly for the software.
A full hardware package costs around $16,000, with a perpetual license for hardware and software around $40,000 (CineD, April 2026).

Why It Matters

ZEISS is expanding its cinematography offerings into a more integrated premium large-format workflow, directly addressing the complexities of virtual production. By combining high-end optics with advanced real-time camera tracking and metadata, ZEISS aims to streamline VFX-heavy productions for cinematographers and post-production teams. This signals a continued push by hardware manufacturers to provide holistic solutions that bridge on-set capture with digital post-production. Look for adoption rates among high-end productions and integration with other virtual production platforms to indicate market impact.

Additional Context

The CinCraft Scenario system, which launched in late 2023, represents ZEISS’s deeper entry into virtual production and real-time VFX, built on technology from its earlier acquisition of Ncam Technologies Ltd. (CineD, April 2026). During NAB 2026, ZEISS also teased a new Nuke plugin, Lens Core, designed to mimic physical lens characteristics in post-production, further extending their ecosystem into software pipelines (CineD, April 2026). This push into providing a fully digital lens workflow, encompassing camera tracking, lens metadata, and virtual lens characteristics, highlights a broader industry trend where optics companies are increasingly focusing on the handoff between capture and VFX finishing. The company reports the Panoptes 65 lenses are available for order, with deliveries of several focal lengths expected in late summer 2026 and others in 2027 (Content+Technology, June 2026).
