StreamU and UnlimitedIRL have launched an on-campus production studio at UC Berkeley to facilitate student-athlete content creation for Twitch. The studio is equipped with professional-grade hardware including Canon and Sony cameras, Blackmagic Design switchers, and LiveU encoders to support multi-camera live streaming.
This partnership signals a shift in collegiate athletics toward professionalized, athlete-led media production. By providing high-end hardware from Blackmagic Design and LiveU, UC Berkeley is lowering the technical barrier for student-athletes to build personal brands and monetize their NIL rights directly on Twitch. This move forces other athletic departments to consider whether they must provide similar media infrastructure to remain competitive in recruiting. As StreamU scales to four more universities in the coming weeks, the industry should watch for how these dedicated channels impact traditional regional sports network viewership and local sponsorship distributions.
The facility features a PlayStation 5 gaming lounge and a portable Sony FX3 camera for on-campus live broadcasts.
