The article discusses the challenges streaming operators face with Server-Side Ad Insertion (SSAI) measurement, particularly for live and FAST services. It highlights that SSAI aims to provide a broadcast-like ad experience by stitching ads into the stream in real-time.
SSAI changes the ad experience immediately by moving insertion into the stream itself, which is why live and FAST operators are adopting it. The tradeoff is measurement complexity: once ads are stitched server-side, operators need a way to understand delivery and performance without relying on a standard client-side flow. That matters across the streaming ad stack because SSAI sits at the intersection of playback and monetization. The next thing to watch is how operators address measurement for live streaming and FAST services specifically, since those are the use cases called out in the article.
