MainConcept launched Codec SDK 17.0 at IBC 2026, featuring support for NETINT VPUs and NVIDIA GPUs on Linux Arm. The release also introduces new partnerships with Qualabs for real-time VMAF-E quality monitoring and Colorfront for MV-HEVC stereoscopic encoding for Apple Vision Pro.
The release of MainConcept Codec SDK 17.0 signals a shift toward hardware-agnostic pipelines as streaming operators move workloads to Arm-based edge and cloud silicon. By integrating support for NETINT and NVIDIA on Arm, MainConcept reduces the integration friction for engineers managing diverse compute environments. The inclusion of MV-HEVC and VMAF-E monitoring suggests that high-fidelity spatial video and automated quality assurance are moving from experimental features to standard operational requirements. This development forces competitors to match cross-platform hardware efficiency while supporting emerging immersive formats. Watch for adoption rates of the MV-HEVC encoder among post-production toolsets like Colorfront to gauge the growth of the spatial video ecosystem.
MainConcept's Codec SDK 17.0 arrives amid intensifying competition among hardware-accelerated transcoding vendors seeking to reduce per-stream encoding costs. NETINT, whose Quadra VPU is now integrated into the SDK, has been expanding its footprint in cloud and edge deployments. In early 2026, NETINT announced that its Quadra VPU had been adopted by multiple tier-one streaming platforms for live transcoding workloads, claiming up to 80% reduction in compute cost per stream compared to software-only encoding on equivalent server hardware. That positioning directly supports MainConcept's strategy of offering a single SDK that abstracts away the underlying accelerator, whether NETINT VPU or NVIDIA GPU.
NVIDIA's role in the transcoding ecosystem continues to expand beyond gaming and AI training. At NAB Show 2026, NVIDIA demonstrated its latest NVENC and NVDEC capabilities on the Blackwell-generation GPUs, targeting broadcast and OTT workflows with claims of 2x throughput improvement over the prior Ada Lovelace generation for HEVC and AV1 encode pipelines. The Arm support in Codec SDK 17.0 is notable because NVIDIA's Grace Hopper and Grace Blackwell superchips run on Arm architecture, meaning MainConcept can now address the same GPU-accelerated workloads on both x86 and Arm server platforms without separate codebases. This aligns with broader industry movement toward Arm-based data center silicon, where NVIDIA, Ampere, and AWS Graviton are all competing for cloud transcoding budgets.
On the spatial video front, the MV-HEVC encoder partnership with Colorfront reflects growing demand from post-production houses delivering content for Apple Vision Pro. Colorfront's On-Set Dailies and Transkoder products have been updated to support MV-HEVC output for stereoscopic spatial video delivery, targeting studios producing immersive content for Apple's headset. Meanwhile, Qualabs has been expanding its VMAF-E quality monitoring platform, which provides real-time perceptual quality scoring during live encoding, a capability that MainConcept has now embedded directly into its SDK pipeline. The combination of hardware flexibility, spatial video encoding, and automated quality assurance in a single SDK release positions MainConcept against competitors like Harmonic and Telestream, which have also been adding multi-hardware support to their encoding stacks.
