Magnite and ITN automate local linear TV buying via agentic AI

The integration of agentic AI into the Magnite Orchestration layer addresses the historical operational drag that has limited local linear TV growth. By bridging traditional IO-based workflows with programmatic execution, the partnership allows digital-first buyers to access local inventory with the same speed and efficiency as CTV. This shift enables advertisers to holistically plan and optimize total TV spend in a single environment rather than managing fragmented silos. The move signals a broader industry trend toward unifying linear and digital supply chains through automation. Watch for Q4 2026 adoption rates among digital-first agencies to gauge how effectively this technology expands the local linear buyer base.

Magnite has been steadily expanding its agentic AI capabilities across the programmatic supply chain throughout 2026. In April 2026, Magnite launched its Orchestration layer as a unified interface connecting buyers and sellers through AI-driven automation, positioning the platform as a middleware layer that reduces friction between demand-side and supply-side participants. The company has framed agentic workflows as the next evolution beyond header bidding and server-side ad insertion, targeting the operational overhead that has historically slowed programmatic adoption in linear and local TV. ITN, which operates the NXTv platform for local television stations, has similarly invested in automating the sales process for broadcasters who lack the resources to manage programmatic deals manually. The broader ad-tech market has seen a wave of agentic AI product launches and partnerships in 2026, with measurement and verification players also moving into the space. In July 2026, The Trade Desk announced its own agentic AI buying assistant called Koa, which automates campaign planning and optimization across open internet inventory, signaling that demand-side platforms are pursuing similar automation goals on the buying side. Meanwhile, Innovid expanded its AI-powered creative optimization tools for CTV advertisers in May 2026, adding real-time creative testing capabilities that complement the transactional automation Magnite is pursuing on the supply side. These moves reflect a competitive race to own the agentic layer of the ad stack, with each participant trying to become the default automation interface for their respective side of the market. On the technical side, Magnite's Orchestration layer builds on impression-based forecasting models that differ from traditional GRP-based planning used in local TV. Magnite reported in its Q2 2026 earnings call that CTV revenue grew 22% year over year, driven in part by automated buying workflows, suggesting that the infrastructure supporting agentic transactions is already handling meaningful volume. The ITN integration specifically targets the gap between national programmatic CTV buying, which has matured significantly, and local linear TV, where manual insertion orders and spreadsheet-based planning remain standard. Cerone Advisory Group, which advises local broadcasters on digital revenue strategies, estimated in a 2026 report that fewer than 15% of local TV stations currently participate in any programmatic marketplace, underscoring the size of the addressable market that agentic automation could reach if adoption barriers fall.
