KGW, an NBC affiliate in Portland, selected APANTAC Universal Scalers for use during its coverage of the Sochi Olympics. The decision highlights the adoption of specific video hardware for live broadcast events.
KGW’s choice shows a local NBC affiliate using named production hardware for a major live event, not just general-purpose broadcast gear. For the streaming and broadcast stack, that means video infrastructure decisions still hinge on specific hardware capabilities for demanding event coverage. The only concrete signal to watch here is whether APANTAC adds similar case studies with other affiliates or event-based deployments beyond Sochi.
