Encompass and Oracle expand cloud-native broadcast partnership

Broadcasters and streaming operators are continuing to move core operations from fixed facilities into cloud infrastructure, and this partnership shows how managed service providers are packaging playout and master control for that shift. It fits squarely into the IBC media-tech conversation around cloud production, distribution, and workflow modernization, especially for live and linear services that still need broadcast-grade reliability. The main signal to watch next is whether Encompass and Oracle add named customer deployments or expand the service beyond playout and master control into adjacent media workflows.

Encompass has been using Oracle Cloud Infrastructure for broadcast feed delivery for years, including an OCI-and-Zixi service aimed at replacing some satellite distribution paths. That matters because the current partnership extension looks less like a pilot and more like an incremental expansion of an existing operational model, with Encompass already treating OCI as part of its managed media stack.

IBC’s 2025 Master Control Cloud accelerator showed cloud master control linked to live truck contribution and traditional broadcast infrastructure, which is the same operational problem Encompass is addressing with cloud-native playout and control. The broader industry signal is that cloud adoption is moving from isolated OTT use cases into core linear workflows, where redundancy, routing, and handoff design matter as much as encoding or storage.

Oracle positions OCI Streaming as a fully managed, scalable, durable service for high-volume real-time data, and Oracle’s media-services pages show a wider OCI toolkit for media-oriented workflows. For broadcasters, that combination is the real economics story here, because cloud-native control planes can reduce appliance sprawl while keeping a path open for disaster recovery, archive workflows, and burst capacity when live schedules spike.
