DAZN Group has finalized its acquisition of ViewLift, a US-based provider of end-to-end OTT and D2C streaming solutions. The deal allows DAZN to integrate ViewLift's technology stack and existing sports media partnerships into its own global streaming infrastructure.
The completion of this deal provides DAZN with the technical infrastructure and established relationships necessary to navigate the fragmented US regional sports network landscape. By acquiring a proven SaaS provider, DAZN shifts from a pure broadcaster to a comprehensive technology partner for leagues like the NBA, NHL, and MLB that are seeking direct-to-consumer alternatives. This move directly challenges traditional cable models by offering teams a turnkey solution to reach fans without legacy carriage disputes. As the 2026-27 seasons approach, the industry should monitor how many additional teams migrate their local rights to the integrated DAZN-ViewLift platform.
ViewLift has built a reputation as a white-label streaming technology provider serving sports leagues and media companies across North America. The company's platform supports end-to-end OTT operations including content management, subscription billing, ad insertion, and multi-platform distribution. Blue Planet and Telefónica Deutschland completed a joint proof of concept exploring agentic AI to power 5G network slicing services, demonstrating how telecom operators are preparing infrastructure for resource-heavy use cases such as video streaming, a trend that directly benefits OTT platform providers like ViewLift as they scale delivery to regional audiences.
DAZN's broader strategy under co-CEO Shay Segev has shifted aggressively toward technology ownership rather than content licensing alone. The company's pursuit of ViewLift follows a pattern of vertical integration across its streaming stack. Ericsson's networks chief Per Narvinger noted at MWC 2026 that AI will shift through the mid-cycle 5G evolution in AI-driven RAN optimisation, with the company claiming its AI models can extract 10 percent more capacity from existing spectrum. For streaming platforms serving live sports to millions of concurrent viewers, such network-level optimizations reduce the cost pressure that makes regional sports economics challenging for pure-play OTT services.
The technical demands of regional sports streaming are intensifying as uplink and downlink traffic patterns shift. Ericsson's Mobility Report from June 2025 quantified how generative AI is driving bi-directional network changes, with interactive viewing experiences and second-screen engagement creating new load profiles that OTT platforms must accommodate. ViewLift's existing deployments with 17 professional teams across the NBA, NHL, and MLB provide DAZN with proven infrastructure for handling these evolving traffic patterns at the regional level, where latency and reliability requirements are particularly stringent for live game delivery.
