coralbay.tv has launched coralEdge, a new feature for its coralPlay cloud playout platform that enables distributed playout via remote edge servers managed with Kubernetes and Docker. The system is designed to operate autonomously even with unreliable network connectivity by pre-caching media and playlists to edge locations.
coralEdge lets broadcasters distribute playout processing to regional edge servers while keeping centralized automation control in the cloud — reducing hosting costs and solving for low-bandwidth scenarios that traditional cloud-only playout cannot handle. This positions coralbay.tv alongside vendors like Synamedia (Quortex PowerVu, April 2026) and Harmonic (XOS edge playout, July 2024) that are pushing edge-based content assembly as the industry transitions from satellite to IP distribution. Watch whether coralbay.tv's existing customer SES, which had 70 channels on coralPlay as of 2021, adopts coralEdge for multi-region expansion.
coralbay.tv has been steadily expanding coralPlay's capabilities for distributed and challenging network environments. At IBC 2025, the company announced enhanced graphic options and other features for its cloud-native playout suite, continuing a pattern of incremental feature releases that build on the platform's Docker-and-Kubernetes microservices architecture. The coralEdge launch fits this trajectory by adding autonomous edge operation to a system that already supports hybrid cloud and on-premises deployment.
The integration of Zixi's Software-Defined Video Platform into coralPlay represents coralbay.tv's earlier approach to unreliable-network delivery. Where Zixi addresses transport-layer resilience for live feeds, coralEdge shifts the resilience model to the playout layer itself, pre-caching media and playlists so that edge servers can continue operating independently when upstream connectivity drops.
coralbay.tv's January 2024 release of enhanced live input handling over IP introduced degradable inputs with automatic failover across primary and backup sources, a design philosophy that parallels coralEdge's autonomous operation during connectivity loss. CEO Peter Hajittofi described the live input framework as enabling customers to handle live events in IP environments with resilience comparable to traditional SDI workflows. coralEdge extends that resilience concept from input handling to full playout continuity at remote locations.
