AMC Global Media has renewed its distribution agreement with YouTube TV to maintain carriage of its linear and FAST channels for 10 million subscribers. The deal also expands the integration of AMC's streaming services, allowing access to ad-supported tiers via genre-based packaging common in their pay-TV distribution strategies.
This renewal signals a shift toward granular, cost-conscious bundling as virtual MVPDs like YouTube TV adopt the genre-based packaging common in traditional cable. By moving core assets into lower-priced tiers, AMC is trading potential per-subscriber fees for broader reach and reduced churn in a price-sensitive market. The deal underscores a wider industry trend where programmers increasingly use linear carriage to seed ad-supported streaming tiers, effectively turning legacy distribution into a top-of-funnel acquisition tool for direct-to-consumer services. Watch for whether YouTube TV adopts the 'no extra cost' ad-supported AMC Plus bundle recently deployed by Charter and DirecTV to further consolidate their entertainment offerings.
The YouTube TV renewal coincides with a significant financial pivot for AMC Global Media. Per its Q2 2026 earnings report released in July 2026, the company raised its full-year revenue guidance to a range of $2.4 billion to $2.45 billion. This optimism is largely anchored by a new five-year, $500 million co-exclusive licensing deal with Netflix for the entire 'The Walking Dead' universe, which includes 371 episodes across seven series. While affiliate revenue dropped 17% to $126 million in Q2 due to basic subscriber declines, streaming revenue grew 6% to $180 million, now accounting for more than one-third of domestic operations revenue.
Simultaneously, distribution partners are aggressively restructuring their service tiers to include these premium streaming assets. Per CNET and Trend Hunter in March 2026, Philo introduced a 'Bundle Plus' tier priced at $33 per month that packages its live lineup with ad-supported versions of AMC Plus and Max. This follows the template set by Charter Communications, which announced in September 2024 that it would include the ad-supported AMC Plus tier at no additional cost for Spectrum TV Select customers. These moves collectively illustrate a market-wide transition where programmers and distributors are abandoning high-cost, all-or-nothing bundles in favor of hybrid models that blend linear networks with ad-supported streaming services to forecast linear TV decline to retain price-sensitive viewers. As streaming ads drive revenue, these partnerships are becoming essential for long-term growth.
