Amazon has acquired licensing rights from Sony Pictures Television to stream classic Norman Lear series, including "All in the Family," "227," and "Maude." These shows will be available exclusively on Amazon Prime Video and IMDb TV, with some titles streaming for the first time ever, such as "Maude" and all nine seasons of "All in the Family."
Amazon is using a Sony Pictures Television licensing deal to add older scripted catalog to both Prime Video and IMDb TV right away. The split across a subscription service and a free ad-supported service shows how the company is placing the same library across different monetization models. The immediate test is simple: which titles begin on July 15, and which later arrive on Prime Video later this year, including The Jeffersons, Sanford & Son and Sanford.
