X has launched 'NFL Gametime,' a dedicated feed integrating real-time scores, statistics, and curated content alongside standard user feeds. The initiative, which runs through the 2027 Super Bowl, is designed to provide a brand-safe environment to attract advertisers to the platform's sports-focused inventory.
The launch of the X NFL Gametime feed represents a strategic attempt to wall off premium sports content from the platform's more volatile general discourse. By curating a feed populated by official NFL data and verified journalists, X is creating a predictable environment designed to win back blue-chip advertisers like Mars and CVS Health. Within the broader streaming ecosystem, this move highlights the increasing value of real-time social integration as a companion to live sports broadcasts. Watch for whether this curated feed model is expanded to other major sports leagues to further diversify the platform's ad-supported video inventory.
X has been steadily building out its sports content strategy as a path back to advertiser confidence. The platform secured streaming rights to Thursday Night Football games in 2025, and the NFL extended its partnership with X through the 2026 season with expanded digital content packages that include behind-the-scenes access and real-time data integrations. The NFL Gametime feed represents the next evolution of that relationship, moving beyond simple content licensing into a structured, brand-controlled environment. Monique Pintarelli, who leads X's sports partnerships, has described the initiative as a multi-year commitment designed to give advertisers predictability around premium inventory.
The business case for curated sports feeds on X is rooted in the platform's ongoing struggle to recover advertiser spend. Following Elon Musk's acquisition and subsequent controversies, major advertisers including Mars and CVS Health pulled spending from X in late 2023 and have been slow to return. X's legal dispute with the Global Alliance for Responsible Media (GARM) further complicated relationships with brand-safety-focused agencies. The NFL Gametime feed appears designed to sidestep those concerns entirely by creating a walled garden of verified, league-approved content. X reported a 300% annual increase in AI bot traffic across the platform in 2026, which adds urgency to creating controlled environments where advertisers can be confident their ads appear alongside legitimate content rather than automated or manipulated posts.
From a technical and competitive standpoint, X's approach mirrors what other platforms have done with dedicated sports experiences. Google published new documentation in May 2026 on optimizing websites for generative AI features in Search, signaling that AI-driven content discovery is reshaping how sports content reaches audiences across platforms. The NFL Gametime feed's integration of real-time scores and statistics positions X as a companion experience to live broadcasts, similar to how Performance TV advertising budgets are shifting as marketers prioritize sales. The feed runs through the 2027 Super Bowl, giving X a long runway to demonstrate measurable advertiser outcomes and potentially expand the model to other leagues. Brent Lawton, who oversees X's ad products, has indicated that the platform plans to introduce additional curated verticals if the meet engagement and revenue targets, while continues to set the benchmark for .
