Stingray is expanding its interactive karaoke and audio services into the automotive sector, targeting 15 manufacturers with a strategy that leverages its recent TuneIn acquisition for programmatic advertising. The company is positioning the connected-car dashboard as a new media environment for interactive entertainment, with a focus on international markets and Chinese automakers.
The move signals a shift in the connected-car market from basic utility to high-margin interactive media environments. By securing licensing rights across diverse international territories, Stingray establishes a defensive moat against competitors who lack the infrastructure to manage complex global music royalties. This strategy connects the living room CTV experience to the vehicle, creating a continuous ecosystem for programmatic audio and video ads. As vehicles become increasingly software-defined, the ability to offer branded OEM Audio platforms will likely become a standard requirement for automakers entering Western markets. Watch for Stingray to report specific programmatic revenue growth following the full technical integration of TuneIn’s advertising stack.
Stingray's automotive entertainment expansion arrives as the connected-car media market intensifies competition among audio and interactive content providers. Nokia partnered with Google Cloud at DTW Ignite 2026 to build six specialized AI agents for telecom network operations, a move that underscores how connectivity infrastructure providers are racing to support the data-heavy environments that in-car streaming services like Stingray Karaoke depend on. The reliability of mobile networks directly affects whether OEMs can deliver real-time interactive experiences such as karaoke and trivia to passengers without buffering or latency issues. Nokia's agentic platform, which it plans to launch in Google Cloud Marketplace in September 2026, targets 50% to 80% reductions in network problem-solving times, a metric that matters for automakers evaluating whether their connectivity stacks can support always-on entertainment.
On the business and partnership side, Nokia combined with AWS and Databricks to build a unified data and cloud control layer for autonomous networks, demonstrating how platform vendors are assembling full-stack architectures that could underpin the kind of programmatic advertising and content delivery systems Stingray needs across 15 OEM partners. Nokia's Autonomous Network Fabric, which will run on AWS from later in 2026, uses intent-based networking and unified data management to deliver observability and automation across domains. For Stingray, the implication is that the underlying network infrastructure supporting connected-car services is maturing rapidly, reducing one of the key technical barriers to delivering consistent interactive entertainment across diverse vehicle platforms and geographic markets.
The competitive landscape for in-car entertainment is also shaped by how equipment vendors are diverging on AI strategy. Ericsson and Nokia are diverging sharply on AI-RAN architecture, with Nokia running all Layer 1 functions on Nvidia GPUs while Ericsson limits GPU use to forward error correction. This split affects how quickly operators can deploy the low-latency 5G networks that connected-car entertainment requires. Ericsson launched its AI in RAN commercial software subscription on June 11, 2026, claiming up to 20% higher downlink throughput across more than 15 live deployments, while Nokia and Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison announced a GPU-accelerated AI-RAN partnership in Indonesia on June 8. These throughput gains are directly relevant to Stingray's ability to deliver high-quality karaoke and streaming audio in vehicles across both developed and emerging markets, particularly the Chinese automaker segment the company is targeting.
