SNS EVO storage platform gains 40% throughput boost and AI suite

The 40% performance lift directly addresses the increasing bandwidth demands of concurrent multi-editor 4K workflows, reducing hardware bottlenecks during high-intensity post-production. By keeping AI processing on-premises, SNS provides a secure alternative for organizations that cannot risk uploading proprietary media to cloud-based analysis tools. This update strengthens the integration between storage and creative software, particularly through validated Avid Media Composer support and cross-platform transcoding. As production environments become more fragmented, the shift toward cloud-based video production tools and natural language media search will likely become the baseline for collaborative asset management. Watch for whether competitors match the perpetual license model for AI processing to lure cost-conscious enterprise studios.

Studio Network Solutions has positioned EVO as a central hub for collaborative post-production environments, competing directly with shared-storage platforms from Facilis, EditShare, and Qumulo. At IBC2026 technology trends, EditShare unveiled its EFS 45NL node with native NVMe caching and a redesigned metadata engine targeting multi-site editorial teams, underscoring the competitive pressure on SNS to differentiate through AI-assisted workflows rather than raw storage alone. Meanwhile, Facilis announced in early 2025 that its FastTracker object-storage tier had been adopted by more than 30 broadcast facilities across Europe, signaling that mid-market shared storage vendors are racing to bundle intelligence layers atop their file systems. On the licensing and business side, SNS's decision to offer AI Suite Advanced under a perpetual license model contrasts with the subscription-based AI add-ons that have become standard across the post-production toolchain. Avid itself moved to a subscription-first model for Media Composer in 2023, with perpetual licenses available only through legacy enterprise agreements, a shift that generated pushback from independent editors and smaller facilities. By keeping AI processing on-premises and outside a recurring fee structure, SNS is targeting cost-sensitive studios that have resisted cloud-based analysis subscriptions. The validated compatibility with Avid Media Composer 2026.8 also reinforces a long-standing partnership; Avid and SNS announced a joint certification program in 2024 to ensure EVO systems meet Avid's performance thresholds for collaborative bin-locking and media management, reducing integration friction for facilities running mixed Avid and non-Avid environments. From a technical standpoint, the 40% throughput gain on SSD-powered EVO configurations addresses a specific bottleneck in 4K and 8K multi-stream editorial. Independent testing by Creative COW in mid-2025 measured sustained read speeds of 3.2 GB/s on EVO SSD clusters during simultaneous 4K ProRes 4444 playback across eight client workstations, a figure that places EVO in the same performance band as higher-priced offerings from Facilis and EditShare. The Transcode Accelerator feature, which offloads codec conversion to dedicated hardware, aligns with a broader industry trend toward heterogeneous compute in storage appliances; Qumulo's 2025 partnership with NVIDIA integrated GPU-accelerated transcoding directly into its ANQ platform for media and entertainment customers, suggesting that storage vendors increasingly compete on embedded processing capability rather than capacity alone.
