Orange Pi has introduced the OrangePi O1, a single-board computer powered by the Sophgo BM1688 processor. The board features a 16-TOPS TPU and hardware-accelerated video decoding for up to 16 simultaneous 1080p30 streams, targeting edge AI and video processing applications.
The ability to process 16 concurrent 1080p video streams on a single-board computer shifts the economics of edge-based video analytics and localized transcoding. By integrating a 16-TOPS TPU with dedicated hardware for fisheye dewarping and noise reduction, Orange Pi is positioning this hardware for complex multi-camera environments that previously required more expensive server-grade equipment. This development reflects a broader industry move toward decentralized video processing where AI inference happens at the point of capture rather than in the cloud. Watch for upcoming pricing details to determine if this board can undercut existing edge AI solutions from competitors like NVIDIA or Raspberry Pi.
This launch aligns with a broader trend of integrated content delivery appliances designed to minimize infrastructure overhead in professional broadcast environments, similar to the universal IP-based production transition currently reshaping the industry, and the distributed production workflows increasingly powered by AI.
Orange Pi has launched the OrangePi O1, a single-board computer powered by the Sophgo BM1688 processor. It supports 16 simultaneous 1080p30 video streams and includes a 16-TOPS TPU. This development is significant as it enables complex, multi-camera edge AI and video processing tasks locally, reducing the need for expensive server-grade equipment.
The OrangePi O1 is powered by the Sophgo BM1688 processor, which features eight Arm Cortex-A53 cores and a RISC-V C906 coprocessor.
The board is capable of decoding 16 simultaneous 1080p30 video streams and supports H.264/H.265 encoding for ten 1080p30 streams.
It features an integrated TPU providing 16 TOPS at INT8 and 32 TOPS at INT4, allowing for local AI model deployment.
The OrangePi O1 board measures 90 x 70mm.
