Net Insight Open Live Media architecture debuts to unify distributed production

The shift toward distributed production has created a management gap where media services often lose operational consistency when crossing between private networks and public clouds. By decoupling the media service layer from the underlying connectivity, this architecture allows engineers to maintain hitless protection and timing behavior regardless of the transport path. This move signals a broader industry transition away from simple bandwidth provisioning toward intelligent, service-aware orchestration that treats the entire ecosystem as a single virtualized facility. Watch for how effectively the Nimbra 1020 handles real-world interoperability during high-bandwidth ST 2110 handoffs at the IBC2026 demonstrations.

Net Insight has been building its Nimbra platform as a deterministic media transport layer for broadcasters and service providers navigating the shift from dedicated circuits to IP-based contribution. The company's Open Live Media architecture, introduced at IBC2026, sits atop a growing ecosystem of standards-based live media transport. In June 2026, Ericsson launched its AI in RAN commercial software subscription claiming up to 20% higher downlink throughput across more than 15 live deployments, signaling that network infrastructure vendors are aggressively adding intelligence to transport layers, a trend that directly affects how media companies plan contribution and distribution paths over shared infrastructure. The competitive landscape for deterministic media transport is intensifying as vendors race to address multi-domain orchestration. Nokia has assembled a broad autonomous networks strategy, combining with AWS and Databricks to build a unified data and control layer for telco operations, with its Autonomous Network Fabric positioning itself as an orchestration layer that consumes data, applies models, and triggers actions across radio, core, and transport domains. While Nokia's focus is telecom operations rather than media contribution specifically, the architectural pattern of a unified control plane sitting above heterogeneous transport mirrors what Net Insight is attempting for live video workflows. Nokia also partnered with Google Cloud to deploy six specialized AI agents for network problem-solving at DTW Ignite 2026, claiming operators can reduce network problem-resolution times by 50% to 80%, a benchmark that sets expectations for how quickly autonomous systems can respond to service degradation in carrier-grade environments. On the technical side, the divergence between hardware acceleration strategies in network infrastructure has direct implications for media transport reliability. Ericsson and Nokia are diverging sharply on AI-RAN architecture, with Nokia running all Layer 1 functions on Nvidia GPUs while Ericsson keeps most L1 processing on CPUs, a split that affects how deterministic latency guarantees are maintained across different network segments. For broadcasters relying on Nimbra Edge or similar appliances to traverse operator networks, understanding which acceleration model underpins each carrier's infrastructure becomes relevant to predicting jitter and packet loss behavior. Net Insight's Trust Boundary technology, which manages IP media handoffs between domains, addresses precisely this class of inter-domain unpredictability that emerges when media flows cross networks built on fundamentally different processing architectures. As broadcasters adopt hybrid cloud live production, these orchestration layers become critical for maintaining service quality. To further improve precision in these environments, Net Insight Zyntai TimeNode Access provides the necessary synchronization for edge media workflows.
