Developer Dom Cobley has submitted an 18-part patch series to the FFmpeg project to add H.264 Multiview Video Coding (MVC) decoding support. The update enables decoding for Blu-ray 3D and consumer camcorder content by leveraging existing MV-HEVC interfaces within the h264dec decoder.
This technical update brings H.264 on par with HEVC for multiview handling, streamlining how open-source players manage legacy 3D formats. By utilizing a shared view selection interface, developers can support Blu-ray 3D content without rewriting tool logic for different codecs.
