Former CNN anchor Don Lemon is launching a new FAST channel, 'The Don Lemon Channel,' in partnership with distributor Swerve TV. The channel will be available across both streaming and linear platforms, marking Lemon's expansion into the FAST ecosystem.
The launch of the Don Lemon FAST channel illustrates the growing viability of independent news brands within the free ad-supported streaming television ecosystem. By partnering with Swerve TV, Lemon bypasses traditional cable gatekeepers like CNN to monetize a massive existing social following directly through high-reach streaming platforms. This move reflects a broader industry trend where high-profile journalists are leveraging their personal brands to build standalone video networks rather than seeking new roles at legacy media firms. As the FAST market continues to fragment, the success of this venture will serve as a benchmark for other independent creators seeking to scale beyond YouTube. Watch for Swerve TV's upcoming distribution agreements to see which major smart TV OEMs pick up the new feed.
Swerve TV operates as a distribution and aggregation layer for independent FAST channels, positioning itself among a crowded field of FAST channel distributors that includes Pluto TV, Tubi, and Samsung TV Plus. The company's model focuses on placing niche and creator-driven channels across smart TV platforms, mobile apps, and linear carriage deals, a strategy that mirrors how other independent distributors have scaled without owning the underlying content. Nokia and AWS recently demonstrated how cloud-based orchestration can automate multi-platform content delivery and service assurance at scale, infrastructure patterns that FAST channel operators increasingly rely on to manage simultaneous linear and streaming feeds across dozens of endpoints.
The business case for celebrity-driven FAST channels has gained momentum as advertising dollars continue shifting toward free streaming. Don Lemon's move follows a pattern where high-profile media personalities build standalone video brands rather than returning to traditional networks. The broader FAST advertising market has attracted significant investment, with platforms competing for both viewer attention and advertiser budgets. Ericsson launched its AI in RAN commercial software subscription in June 2026, claiming up to 20% higher downlink throughput across more than 15 live deployments, a development relevant to the network capacity demands that FAST channel proliferation places on mobile and fixed broadband infrastructure. As more independent channels launch, the underlying delivery networks must handle increasing concurrent stream volumes without degrading quality.
From a technical standpoint, FAST channel distribution requires sophisticated content delivery and ad-insertion stacks that can handle server-side ad insertion across heterogeneous device ecosystems. Swerve TV's role as distributor means managing these integrations on behalf of channel owners like Don Lemon, reducing the operational burden on individual creators. Ericsson's agentic AI blueprint defines a service experience layer spanning customer journeys, revenue management, and network operations, architecture patterns that parallel the closed-loop systems FAST platforms use to optimize ad yield and viewer retention simultaneously. The success of The Don Lemon Channel will likely depend on whether Swerve TV can secure placement on major smart TV home screens, where discovery remains the primary bottleneck for creators launch linear FAST channels entrants.
