Cloudflare leads Latin American CDN footprint as five providers plan expansions
Twenty content delivery networks currently have edge servers in Latin America, with five additional providers planning new regional Points of Presence (POPs). Cloudflare leads with 55 POP locations, while Akamai's specific Latin American presence remains undisclosed. Brazil, Argentina, Colombia, Chile, and Peru are highlighted as having the most CDN presence.
Additional Context
The expansion of CDN footprints coincides with a massive surge in underlying digital infrastructure. Per BNamericas and the Brazilian Data Center Association (June 2026), Brazil reached a milestone of 1GW in commissioned IT capacity in Q1 2026, solidifying its position as the region's dominant hub. This infrastructure is increasingly funded by international capital; Brazil attracted US$77.6 billion in foreign direct investment (FDI) in 2025, while Mexico saw a record US$34.3 billion in the first half of the same year. Investment is specifically flowing into Queretaro, Mexico, and Sao Paulo, Brazil, to support the rapid adoption of cloud computing and AI workloads. Streaming demand is the primary driver for this localized capacity. Per Omdia (January 2026), Latin American media revenues are forecast to reach $65 billion by 2026, growing 10.7% year-on-year. This growth is nearly double the rate of the United States and is fueled by a shift toward ad-supported models (AVOD) and free ad-supported streaming television (FAST). Brazil has already emerged as the world's third-largest FAST market by revenue. Furthermore, Ampere Analysis (June 2025) noted that Spanish-language streamer ViX is expected to be the fastest-growing subscription service in the Americas, with an 18% growth rate, underscoring the necessity for robust, low-latency delivery networks to serve over 130 million projected VOD subscribers by 2026.
