CacheFly has launched a managed, single-tenant Private CDN service aimed at enterprise streaming companies that require dedicated capacity and failover certainty. The service allows customers to reserve edge resources in specific markets while CacheFly manages the underlying hardware, network operations, and infrastructure.
This launch addresses a critical friction point for high-volume streamers who have outgrown public delivery networks but lack the resources to build internal global infrastructure. By offering a managed single-tenant model, the service provides the performance predictability of a private network without the massive capital expenditure and specialized engineering staff typically required for DIY builds. Within the broader ecosystem, this move signals a shift toward hybrid delivery strategies where enterprises mix shared and dedicated capacity to manage regional spikes. Watch for how this affects multi-CDN orchestration trends as more broadcasters seek reserved failover certainty for high-profile live events.
CacheFly enters a competitive landscape where several CDN providers have been pushing dedicated and private delivery options for media companies. In March 2025, Fastly announced its Compute platform expansion targeting media and entertainment workloads with dedicated edge compute capabilities, signaling that edge specialization for streaming is becoming a differentiator among delivery vendors. Meanwhile, Akamai reported in its Q2 2025 earnings call that media and entertainment revenue grew 12% year over year, driven by demand for dedicated delivery capacity during live sports events. These moves suggest that CacheFly's single-tenant model is arriving at a moment when the broader market is already shifting toward reserved, performance-guaranteed delivery tiers rather than purely shared public CDN pools. On the business and infrastructure side, CacheFly faces competition from both hyperscalers and specialized delivery firms. Cloudflare launched its Media & Entertainment suite in late 2024, bundling stream delivery, encoding, and DRM under a unified platform, targeting the same enterprise broadcasters that CacheFly's Private CDN addresses. Additionally, Limelight Networks rebranded to Edgio in 2022 and subsequently expanded its media delivery offerings with dedicated origin-to-edge pipelines, though the company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in July 2024, creating a gap in the dedicated CDN market that CacheFly appears to be targeting. The bankruptcy of a major player like Edgio underscores the financial risks of operating dedicated infrastructure at scale and highlights why a managed model that offloads capital expenditure to the provider has appeal. From a technical standpoint, CacheFly's Private CDN approach aligns with emerging CDN edge caching strategies that enterprises are adopting for live event resilience. Mux published its 2025 State of Video report showing that 68% of enterprise streamers now use at least two CDN providers simultaneously, with failover performance cited as the top selection criterion. Conviva's Q1 2025 State of Streaming report found that buffering ratios for live events dropped 23% when broadcasters used enterprise IPTV architecture alongside shared CDN tiers, reinforcing the technical rationale behind reserving edge resources for peak-demand scenarios. These data points validate the premise that dedicated, single-tenant delivery can measurably improve viewer experience during high-concurrency events, which is precisely the use case CacheFly's new product targets.
CacheFly has launched a managed, single-tenant Private CDN designed for enterprise streaming companies. By providing reserved edge resources, the service eliminates the performance variability of shared networks. This allows high-volume streamers to ensure failover capacity and consistent viewer experiences during peak events without the massive capital expenditure of building internal infrastructure.
It is a managed, single-tenant delivery network that provides enterprise streaming companies with dedicated edge resources, allowing them to reserve capacity for peak demand and failover requirements.
The service can be fully operational in as little as 14 days following the finalization of design and commercial terms.
Data shows that using dedicated capacity alongside shared CDN tiers can reduce live event buffering ratios by 23%, helping broadcasters manage regional spikes and improve overall viewer experience.
No, CacheFly handles all underlying hardware, network peering, and 24/7 infrastructure operations, while customers manage routing and caching configurations through the existing platform.
