Bolin Technology and ITDev have joined the Alliance for IP Media Solutions (AIMS) to support the development and adoption of IPMX and SMPTE ST 2110 standards. The addition of these companies brings specialized expertise in FPGA design and professional PTZ camera manufacturing to the alliance's efforts in advancing interoperable IP workflows.
The inclusion of Bolin Technology and ITDev signals a shift from defining IP standards to practical, hardware-level implementation. By integrating FPGA specialists and camera manufacturers, AIMS is addressing the technical hurdles that often slow the transition from proprietary protocols to open standards like IPMX. This move strengthens the ecosystem against fragmented IP solutions, offering broadcasters a more unified path for integrating PTZ cameras and video processing hardware. As these companies contribute to the engineering work behind the standards, the industry should watch for a new wave of IPMX-certified hardware announcements at upcoming trade shows to gauge actual market penetration.
The Alliance for IP Media Solutions has been steadily expanding its membership base as the broadcast and pro AV industry moves toward IP-based workflows. IPMX, the alliance's specification suite built on SMPTE ST 2110, has attracted hardware manufacturers seeking interoperability guarantees for their products. AIMS announced in early 2026 that its IPMX certification program had reached a milestone with multiple vendors submitting products for compliance testing, signaling that the standards body is transitioning from specification development to real-world product validation. Bolin Technology's entry brings PTZ camera expertise into that certification pipeline, while ITDev's FPGA design capabilities address the silicon-level integration challenges that often delay IPMX adoption in production hardware.
On the regulatory and business side, SMPTE ST 2110 has become the de facto reference architecture for IP media transport in broadcast facilities, and AIMS has positioned IPMX as the implementation layer that ensures multi-vendor interoperability. Macnica Broadcast & Pro AV, a long-standing AIMS member, has been active in promoting IPMX-compliant solutions across the Asia-Pacific market, working with system integrators to deploy ST 2110-based infrastructure in live production environments. The addition of Bolin Technology and ITDev extends this geographic and technical reach, particularly in markets where PTZ cameras are increasingly deployed for remote production and automated studio workflows. AIMS board member Andrew Starks has emphasized that the alliance's value proposition rests on reducing integration risk for end users who deploy equipment from multiple manufacturers.
From a technical standpoint, IPMX addresses the gap between raw SMPTE ST 2110 compliance and true plug-and-play interoperability by defining discovery, registration, and control protocols that allow devices from different vendors to communicate without custom configuration. ITDev has previously demonstrated FPGA-based IP video processing platforms that support ST 2110 transport at 4K and 8K resolutions, providing the kind of low-latency signal processing that broadcasters require for live production. Bolin Technology's PTZ cameras, meanwhile, represent a growing category of IP-native devices that must interoperate with switchers, routers, and control systems from other manufacturers. The convergence of these capabilities within AIMS suggests that IPMX-certified hardware announcements could accelerate at IBC 2026 and NAB Show 2027, giving broadcasters concrete procurement options for fully interoperable IP facilities.
