Banijay Entertainment is partnering with AI localisation provider Adapt to launch a brand-funded series across seven European markets. The production utilizes AI for translation, voice generation, and visual lip-sync to scale content across platforms including Prime Video and Warner Bros Discovery.
This partnership demonstrates a shift toward using generative AI to solve the cost and speed barriers of multi-market content rollouts. By automating lip-sync and voice generation, Banijay can maintain high production values for brand-funded content without the traditional overhead of seven separate shoots or standard dubbing. This move signals a broader trend where streaming platforms like Prime Video and Warner Bros Discovery accept AI-enhanced localization to fill regional programming gaps efficiently. For the wider ecosystem, it validates AI as a tool for scaling niche lifestyle formats into international franchises. Watch for audience reception of the AI-synced visuals in the Netherlands and Italy to gauge if viewers accept synthetic performances in premium environments.
Adapt, the AI localization company behind Banijay's multi-market rollout of 'Live Better for Less,' operates in a rapidly expanding field of AI dubbing and localization providers competing for studio and broadcaster contracts. In early 2025, ElevenLabs raised $180 million in a Series C round led by Andreessen Horowitz, valuing the voice AI startup at $3.3 billion and signaling investor confidence that synthetic voice and dubbing tools will become standard infrastructure for global content distribution. ElevenLabs has since expanded its dubbing product to support more than 30 languages with lip-sync capabilities, directly competing with Adapt's offering in the European market.
The business case for AI localization is being tested across multiple content categories and distribution models. In March 2025, Netflix confirmed it had used AI dubbing for select titles in Spain and France, marking one of the first major streaming platform deployments of synthetic voice for premium content. The move followed a broader industry trend where platforms seek to reduce localization costs, which traditionally run between $5,000 and $15,000 per hour of content for human dubbing. For brand-funded content like Banijay's Vinted partnership, where budgets are typically tighter than scripted originals, AI localization offers a path to multi-market distribution that was previously uneconomical. WPP Media, which is involved in the Banijay-Adapt deal, has been integrating AI tools across its media buying and content operations as agencies seek efficiency gains in branded entertainment production.
Technical benchmarks for AI lip-sync and voice generation have improved significantly over the past year, though quality perception among viewers remains a key variable. A study published by the European Broadcasting Union in late 2024 found that AI-dubbed content scored within 12% of human-dubbed equivalents on viewer comprehension tests, but emotional resonance scores lagged further behind, particularly for lifestyle and entertainment formats where presenter personality drives engagement. This gap is directly relevant to Banijay's deployment, which relies on recognizable presenters like Motsi Mabuse and Lodovica Comello whose vocal performances are central to audience connection. The EBU study recommended hybrid workflows combining AI speed with human quality review, an approach that aligns with how Adapt positions its technology as augmenting rather than replacing traditional localization pipelines.
