Open Broadcast Systems delivers software-based professional video transport solutions that run on commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) hardware, enabling broadcasters to achieve flexible, low-latency encoding and decoding at a fraction of traditional costs. Its native support for ST-2110 uncompressed-over-IP and up to 200 Gigabit Ethernet per server allows bulk transport to and from the cloud with unrivalled density and energy efficiency. The company's in-house SRT implementation and perpetually licensed software, available as turnkey appliances or pure software, provide customers with vendor-independent, scalable infrastructure for live contribution, distribution, and cloud migration.
Open Broadcast Systems developed HDR output support for its decoders across various pipelines, overcoming significant QA challenges due to differing output configurations. The company leveraged AI alongside human testing to manage the extensive permutations required for consistent HDR experiences, particularly for HLG and integrating with third-party hardware like Blackmagic Decklink. This strategic use of AI addresses the complexity of interoperability across diverse broadcast and streaming video outputs.
SPOTV has selected Open Broadcast Systems' decoders for its international transition from satellite to IP workflows, aiming to deliver high-quality, low-latency live broadcast services across Asia. The solution, implemented in partnership with Zixi, integrates with Zixi's ZEN Master for remote monitoring and enables regionalized content delivery while eliminating satellite infrastructure costs.
High-quality, low-latency contribution services using IT hardware.
Open Broadcast Systems describes adding support for transporting and decoding more than 16 audio channels (e.g., 32 channels) within an ST 2110 IP workflow, addressing the legacy SDI-derived 16-channel limit common in many encoder/decoder designs. The post argues that many existing ST 2110 implementations retain embedded hardware constraints (DSP/CPU/FPGA resource limits), forcing workarounds like duplicating video feeds to carry additional languages. Open Broadcast Systems states its software-based low-latency encoders/decoders can handle higher channel counts without the extra video-feed approach.
