Mux provides a full-stack video infrastructure API that simplifies live and on-demand streaming, encoding, and delivery for developers, eliminating the need to manage complex video pipelines. Its key differentiator is the tightly integrated Mux Data analytics platform, which automatically monitors quality of experience (QoE) metrics like rebuffering and startup time, enabling real-time optimization of video streams. Mux Video leverages data from millions of streams to automatically generate optimal renditions for every device, setting it apart as a self-optimizing solution. With backing from major investors such as Coatue, Accel, Andreessen Horowitz, and Y Combinator, Mux has raised over $174M in total funding and serves thousands of customers including Reddit, Vimeo, Robinhood, and TED, reflecting strong market trust.
Mux Video API enables developers to integrate video streaming, moderation, search, analysis, and transformation into their applications.
On-demand video streaming service to deliver video content reliably and cost-effectively.
Live video streaming service with low latency and support for SRT and RTMP.
Mux has launched the Directives API for its Robots platform, enabling developers to sequence multiple AI-driven video tasks like captioning and translation through a single API call. The tool automates dependency management and state tracking, simplifying the integration of complex AI workflows for user-generated content and catalog processing.
Mux has launched a new metric called Playing time by rendition for its Mux Data platform, allowing engineers to track the actual wall-clock time viewers spend on specific video renditions. This feature aims to help streaming teams identify underutilized bitrate rungs and validate the real-world impact of encoding ladder adjustments.
Mux has transitioned to an internal CDN routing system that utilizes independent health probes and pre-calculated availability scores to manage traffic. By shifting from third-party real-user monitoring to this proprietary architecture, the company achieved a p99 selection latency of 9.9ms.
Mux published a customer story about Cutsio using Mux to transform from an audio-only tool into a full video platform. The article was published on June 26, 2026.
Mux announced new AI video features: Find Scenes turns video into structured scene data, powered by Shots, a new Mux Video primitive. The post was published on June 25, 2026.
Mux added Shots to Mux Video, enabling extraction of preview images from detected shot boundaries within an asset. The changelog entry is dated June 25, 2026.
Mux published an article detailing the complexities of implementing multi-DRM for video streaming, covering Widevine, FairPlay, and PlayReady, along with various encryption modes and packaging considerations for DASH and HLS. The article explains how Mux's platform simplifies these challenges through a unified API for developers. It also contrasts DRM with signed tokens, outlining appropriate use cases for each security measure.
Mux Data has launched custom Monitoring dashboards, allowing users to create persistent, multi-metric views with saved filters for active streams. This feature enables streaming professionals to build tailored, near real-time metric views using various visualization types. The functionality is available for Custom Media and Self-service Media plans.
Mux has launched two new endpoints, `/heatmap` and `/hotspots`, for its Data Engagement API. These features provide per-moment viewer engagement insights and identify the most or least-watched video segments. This allows professionals to optimize content and user experience based on granular consumption data.
An article from Mux analyzes the strengths and weaknesses of RTMP, SRT, and WebRTC as live streaming ingest protocols, providing a decision framework for their use. It details how each protocol works and when to select it based on latency, network conditions, and encoder constraints. Mux notes its native support for RTMP and SRT, while indicating WebRTC ingest requires a dedicated infrastructure provider currently.
