swXtch.io will debut groundSwXtch at IBC2026, a software-based application designed to transport native AoIP streams like AES67 and ST 2110-30 over standard IP networks, including the public internet and 5G. The platform provides a software overlay that eliminates the need for dedicated codec hardware while supporting SMPTE ST 2022-7 hitless failover.
The introduction of groundSwXtch shifts professional audio transport from a hardware-dependent model to a software-defined one, significantly reducing capital expenditure for remote production hubs. By bypassing the need for physical codec units and specialized multicast switches, swXtch.io is addressing a critical bottleneck in hybrid cloud workflows. This move aligns with the broader industry transition toward virtualized broadcast infrastructure where software replaces proprietary hardware. For the streaming ecosystem, this lowers the barrier for high-fidelity remote commentary and live mixing at scale. Watch for swXtch.io to announce further integration with major cloud providers as they attempt to unify ground-to-cloud audio pipelines.
The launch of groundSwXtch arrives as the global Audio over IP (AoIP) market is projected to reach $5.08 billion by 2033, growing at an 11.2% CAGR from 2025, per DataIntelo (September 2025). This expansion is largely driven by the broadcast sector's transition away from legacy SDI to IP-based workflows, a move validated by major organizations like the BBC and Telemundo as they adopt SMPTE ST 2110 standards for uncompressed media transport, according to reporting from PacketStorm (2025). These transitions have highlighted a significant industry skills gap in managing complex multicast networking, leading to increased demand for automated, software-centric orchestration layers.
Industry leaders are responding by emphasizing interoperability and intelligence over raw hardware specs. Per Audinate (April 2026), approximately 67% of media organizations now use IP networks for audio, a phase they have termed 'AVoIP 2.0.' In this environment, solutions like swXtch.io's groundSwXtch compete with established platforms such as Grass Valley’s AMPP and EvertzAV’s MAGNUM-OS. According to ISE research (December 2025), these platforms are increasingly focused on treating cloud and on-premise resources as a single manageable fabric to support the rise of hybrid and remote workflows.
Further accelerating this shift is the integration of AI within the networking stack. At IBC 2025, swXtch.io introduced AI-powered management tools that use large language models to automate network configuration and troubleshooting, according to Tyrell (September 2025). This aligns with a broader trend identified by AVIXA (January 2026) toward autonomous, self-managing AV ecosystems that reduce the cognitive load on engineers. As hardware-agnostic transport becomes the baseline, vendor competition is shifting toward which software layer can most effectively manage packet loss and clock synchronization across fragmented global networks.
