Red Seat Ventures has updated its Speakeasy creator-hosting platform to support HLS video, enabling adaptive streaming and dynamic ad insertion on Apple Podcasts. The integration allows creators to distribute video content to Apple Podcasts without altering their existing publishing workflows.
Red Seat Ventures’ adoption of HLS signals a shift toward standardized, high-performance video delivery in the podcast ecosystem. By utilizing HLS instead of traditional RSS enclosures, creators can offer viewers smoother playback and the ability to switch between audio and video without interruption. For the broader market, this move validates Apple’s efforts to reclaim video podcasting share from YouTube by providing professional-grade monetization tools like dynamic, host-read video ads. The integration suggests that B2B infrastructure providers are prioritizing multi-format distribution to prevent audience fragmentation across platforms. Watch for whether other major hosting providers like Libsyn or Acast fast-track HLS support to remain competitive in the premium creator market.
The rollout of HLS video on Apple Podcasts follows a significant technical overhaul of the platform in early 2026. According to Apple's February 2026 announcement, the shift to native HLS streaming was designed to replace the legacy RSS enclosure method, which required users to download entire large video files before playback. Per PodcastVideos.com in April 2026, the adoption of iOS 26.4 officially introduced these advanced video capabilities, aligning the app’s delivery standards with major streaming services like Netflix and YouTube to support 1080p resolution and real-time quality adjustments.
Red Seat Ventures has been aggressively consolidating its creator services throughout 2026 to support this multi-format strategy. In February 2026, the company acquired the subscription platform Supercast, which per Reuters and Fox Corporation reports, powered over $26 million in annual revenue for its top 10 creators. By integrating Supercast with the Speakeasy platform launched in April 2026, Red Seat Ventures created a unified stack for advertising, subscriptions, and distribution. Industry analysis from Sounds Profitable in April 2026 noted that other hosting providers, including Transistor and Captivate, have also joined Apple’s initial partner group for HLS, reflecting a broader industry push to professionalize video podcasting beyond simple RSS feeds.
