Law&Crime has migrated its Court TV network to Amagi CLOUDPORT, transitioning from manual broadcast systems to an automated, cloud-native infrastructure. The project, completed in five months, integrates live broadcast and FAST operations using Amagi Intella for AI-powered management.
This migration demonstrates the increasing viability of cloud-native infrastructure for high-stakes, live news environments that traditionally relied on manual broadcast hardware. By unifying broadcast and FAST operations on a single platform, Law&Crime reduces operational overhead while ensuring parity across distribution endpoints. This move reflects a broader industry trend where niche networks prioritize agility and automated syndication to maximize content value across fragmented viewing platforms. Watch for whether other mid-tier cable networks follow this blueprint to phase out legacy on-premise master control in favor of AI-managed cloud services.
Amagi has been aggressively expanding its CLOUDPORT platform across live news and FAST channel operators, positioning itself as a cloud-native alternative to legacy playout vendors. In early 2025, Amagi announced a partnership with Sinclair Broadcast Group to power cloud-based playout for multiple Sinclair-owned stations, marking one of the largest US broadcast group deployments on the platform. That deal followed Amagi's earlier work with smaller networks and international broadcasters, establishing a pattern where mid-tier operators adopt CLOUDPORT to consolidate linear and FAST workflows without maintaining dedicated hardware facilities. The Court TV migration fits squarely within this trajectory, demonstrating that even networks with heavy live programming requirements can transition to automated cloud infrastructure within a compressed timeline.
On the business side, Amagi has been raising capital and expanding its product suite to support this growth. Amagi secured $100 million in a Series E funding round in late 2024, valuing the company at approximately $1.5 billion, with proceeds earmarked for AI-driven automation and international expansion. The company's Intella platform, which Court TV now uses for AI-powered management of its live programming, represents Amagi's push into agentic AI tools that reduce the need for human operators during routine broadcast tasks. This funding and product strategy positions Amagi to compete directly with established playout providers like Grass Valley and Imagine Communications, particularly among networks that lack the capital for on-premise upgrades.
The technical implications of Court TV's migration extend to the broader question of whether cloud playout can handle the reliability demands of live news. Amagi CLOUDPORT supports sub-second failover and redundant streaming paths, which the company demonstrated during its handling of over 2,000 live channels across 40 countries as of mid-2025. For networks like Court TV that produce approximately 10 hours of daily live content, the shift from manual master control to AI-managed automation represents a meaningful reduction in operational risk if the platform's redundancy architecture holds under load. The five-month implementation timeline also suggests that Amagi's migration tooling has matured enough to handle complex live-to-FAST transitions without the multi-year timelines that characterized earlier cloud playout projects.
